Avocados: an effective anti-inflammatory

It’s not rocket science—eating well helps us stay healthy. However, we may not always be aware of the hidden benefits of certain foods. Avocados, for example, are rich in nutrients that make it a natural anti-inflammatory agent!

How so?

By including avocados in your diet, you provide your body with a wide range of antioxidants, such as vitamin E, lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect you from inflammatory diseases and help the immune system function as it should.

Avocados to the rescue!

The findings are striking: a study has shown that people’s inflammatory markers actually decrease when they add avocado to their meals. The research project compared two study groups: one who ate hamburgers with avocado and the other whose burgers had no avocado.

Inflammation can affect our joints and internal organs. If you suffer from conditions such as polyarthritis (inflammatory rheumatism), celiac disease (inflammation of the intestine) or asthma (inflammation of the respiratory system), you’ll gain even more benefit from the antioxidants in avocados.

Not all fat is bad!

Not everyone knows that for our cells to properly absorb these valuable antioxidants, we must consume fat along with them. But not just any fat! Monounsaturated acids such as oleic acid, which is found in our beloved avocados, are one example. They help us attain an optimal level of “good cholesterol,” regulate our level of “bad” fat, and more efficiently absorb nutrients.
