Are you eating enough fruit and vegetables each day? The Heart and Stroke Foundation recommends that Canadians eat 4 to 10 servings of fruit and vegetables a day to help lower the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. To optimize your nutrient intake, choose fruits and vegetables of a variety of types and colours. One way to meet your daily requirement is to include avocado (1 serving of fruit = ½ an avocado) in your menu. The high fat content of this fruit can boost the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients and compounds found in other produce eaten at the same time. This includes the vitamin A in sweet potatoes, spinach, carrots and mangos.
