Get the most out of a whole bag of avocados with these tips and tricks!

You’ll obviously want to make the most of your bag and, most importantly, you don’t want to waste any. We get it. That’s why we’ve come up with some great tips so you can have them just the way you like, no matter what your daily routine is.

How to ripen an avocado

First off, let a few of them ripen.

You know what they say: Good things come to those who wait. But lately, we’ve been thinking more along the lines of “why wait for life to happen when you can make it happen right away?” But there’s an easy fix: Put a few avocados in a paper bag along with a banana. The release of ethylene when these two fruits are combined will help them ripen in just 3-4 days. It’s called magic. Check our video tutorial for the steps.

The star to your smoothies

The secret weapon for the creamiest, yummiest smoothie ever: throw some avos in! Here’s an easy recipe for the whole family to enjoy.

The perfect lunch date

Seriously, avocados are just perfect. They’re easy to be carried around and added to any of your favourite meal. One single avocado can fill up to 2 portions, so you can top off your salad or sandwich with the first half and save the rest for later! For a quick mid-day snack, a few drops of lemon, balsamic vinegar or fresh herbs would do.

And last of not least, here’s a little tip to keep your other half of avocado fresh: don’t remove the stone, squeeze a few drops of lemon juice over and put it in a resealable bag before it heads over to the fridge.

Get your muffin game on

You might not know this yet, but avocados work like magic to help make your cakes and muffins fluffier. They’re a healthy alternative to butter or oil (which you usually need for those recipes) since they’re a source of unsaturated fatty acids. They’ll add a subtle taste to the mix, while letting the spotlight shine on the other ingredients. Such a humble and glorious fruit! Bonus: To make a dozen muffins, all you need is a single avocado! Try this recipe here.

It’s not the weekend without a good guac

“I think I’ll pass on the guac.” …Said no one ever.
Let’s be honest, guac’s a must-have and it just makes everything so much better. So don’t forget to save some avocados for the weekend! The original guacamole recipe is always a good start, but feel free to add your own personality to it. Red peppers, cheese, hot sauce, tequila, black beans…the possibilities are endless.

How to freeze an avocado

Keep them fresher, longer!

Can’t find room for all your avos in this week’s recipes? No problem. Throw them in your freezer instead! Dice the remaining avocados, squeeze some lemon juice over them and store in the freezer. It works like magic! So when the time comes to make a refreshing smoothie or a tasty dressing, you’ll know exactly where to go for the magical ingredient.
